The Marangu route on mountain Kilimanjaro is the oldest route amongst others and it is known as the “coco-cola” route which makes it considered as the classic trek. It is well established and considered the easiest path on mountain Kilimanjaro, offering sleeping huts with dormitory-style accommodation.

You'll be provided with:

ITINERARY

Day 1: From your hotel to Kilimanjaro national park

Day 1: From your hotel to Kilimanjaro national park

Mandara hut

After having your morning breakfast, our driver guide will pick you from park view hotel and drive you to Kilimanjaro national park gate which takes about 1 hour to reach at the gate. You will register at the park offices and then you will start straight away with your trek walking through the rainforest towards Mandara huts. You will have a side trek to Maundi crater where you be able to see the surrounding of northern Tanzania and some parts of Kenya. While passing through the rainforest, make sure to look for towering Eucalytus tress, Colobus monkeys and birds on your way to Mandara huts.

Day 2: From Mandara huts to Horombo huts

Horombo hut

After having your early morning breakfast, you will start your trek from Mandara huts ascending to Horombo huts. You will leave the glades of the rainforest and continue following an ascending path on the open moorland to the Horombo huts. On your way, you will view Mawenzi and the summit Kibo on a distance which is super amazing to view. You will look for giant lobelias and grounsels even at this point. You will start feeling the effects of the altitude.

Day 3: Horombo huts

You will have a full day resting at Horombo huts while you have some small hiking's around or nearby Mawenzi peak. This trek around Mawenzi peak will depend on you either to hike the peak or you stay at the huts while preparing yourself for tomorrows hike.

Kibo safari camp

You will start your today’s trek after taking your breakfast and then ascend uphill while passing the last watering point while walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The vegetation starts with upper heathland but which later disappears into moonscape. You will have your dinner very early in the evening and sleep early while preparing for the summit climbing in the midnight.

Day 5: From Kibo huts to Uhuru summit

Horombo hut

Today, you will wake up in the midnight at 2:00am and have a hot tea and snacks and then after, you will start your last hike to the summit on a steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim. You will continue climbing ascending to Uhuru peak which is the highest point in Africa. Get to know this, that there are unbelievable views at every turn you make on the summit which are incredible. You will take some videos and pictures on the summit of mountain Kilimanjaro which you will show your friends and family members. At having sometime at the summit, you will start descending down stopping for lunch while resting for a short time at Kbo huts and then afterwards continue descending to Horombo huts. Note that climbing the summit is done in the night in the dark so you are required to have a head lamp or flashlight. Remember also that it will be very cold until you start descending down, so you will need to have your warm layers. Remember that this is far the most difficult part of the trek which is comprised of switchbacks and the going is very slow which involves using poles and an optimistic altitude while getting down from the summit.

Day 6: From Horombo huts to Kilimanjaro gate

Park view hotel

After having your early morning breakfast, you will have a steady descent taking you down through moorland to the Mandara hut. You will continue slopping down through lush forest path to Kilimanjaro national park at Marangu gate. Remember that the lower elevation it is always wet and muddy so you will use gaiters and trekking poles to help you. Get to know that shorts and T-shirts will be probably the best to wear(keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). After reaching at Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro, you will meet our driver who will be waiting for you drive you to your hotel in Moshi town.
